When it comes to making things happen, don’t underestimate the number of conversations you need to start. Making things happen can be hard, specially when it’s new or not straightforward. Every person is a different shape, with different motives by way of lived experience. Finding the right people takes time, rarely do you get a clean shot.
The sales professional knows it, the importance of starting many fronts, the value of diversifying your ways. You can’t be efficacious 100% of the time, such efficacy is reserved for higher agencies. Starting conversations can be daunting, it exposes you to failure, makes you vulnerable. Be compassionate with yourself, when you feel uninclined to initiate and scale your efforts. Just keep in mind, the number of conversations you need to start is always more than you think, and they’re not gonna start themselves.
As we approach the end of the year, think of what interactions would be valuable to have. Where can you start? Often a simple greeting can open a door.
