Forcing the Model on Kabul
Kabul fell to the Taliban today. You have to care for people to actually help them build. Twenty years of American presence... did we ever care for them? Were they, i.e., their well-being and prosperity, ever our intention? Was the intervention for their sake? Let today's events speak, for they have lots to say.
America thought itself capable. It spun a synthetic government for the country, with a military shaped in America's own. A fundamental misunderstanding of how Reality works. Governments and organized forces are sets of relationships that cannot be imposed, cannot be artificial. They have to be built and woven from existing bonds, real connections. The shape of America's military is intimately tied to the way people relate in America. There is no magic to the model other than acknowledging preexisting relations and potentialities. Forcing the model elsewhere feels brutish.
