Music Creation Weaves People Together
In a get-together with new friends. Time came when I noticed a deep ancestral sound coming from a long horn-like instrument, a didgeridoo. People were playing with it, something was going on. Other instruments started to play, tambourines, a kalimba, a flute, a guitar, a melodica, along with the didgeridoo. I slowly realized the apartment was full of instruments. The mood was generative, woven together. Spontaneous music creation, not in my typical party!
The atmosphere took me back to ancestral times. In my mind's eye I saw first peoples, woven together, playing music. Because that’s what there was to do... instruments, people, time. For an instant, the rich morphology of musical instruments made complete sense – Don't have an instrument to join? Just make one. A fundamentally different way of sharing an evening.

Music today is different, owned and consumed. No longer made by communities, music today is made by the specialist for an individualized audience. A shift from music for common harmonization towards music for individual taste. The sheer amount of recorded music available on demand is now a permanent disincentive to make music on your own. Specialization, probable cause of morphological collapse/convergence of instruments into modern forms.
