Violence Damages The National Reputation
-
Had a chat with someone in the Israeli diplomatic mission. They say the violent dynamic currently unfolding between Hamas and Israel is complicating their diplomatic work. Partner organizations are increasingly reluctant to deal with the mission. It’s only natural since the doings of the Israeli mission and the violence inflicted on the People of Palestine are both conducted by the same metaphysical character — State of Israel.
Your reputation is always tied with the reputation of those you cooperate with, those that you ‘do together’ with. That’s why it’s understandable that local partners with the mission are withdrawing support, they are only limiting their reputational liability. As much good as it may do elsewhere, a State that brings misery to people is not an entity you want to cooperate with, in any capacity. The routine exercise of cruelty is never warranted, no excuse.
The attitudes held in the twenty-first century by the State of Israel towards the People of Palestine, perhaps a future People of Israel will look back and think of them as atrocious, a reckless infliction of pain and misery over people it considered unworthy of full dignity.
