Severing Ties to Limit Reputational Liability

News media is reporting on the divorce of Bill and Melinda Gates. The role that Mr. Gates’ association with Jeffrey Epstein played in the divorce is not known, but the media painted divorce talks as starting when the Gates-Epstein relationship was revealed. One can only speculate if the revelation crossed a line with Ms. Gates’ own values or with the values of donors to the Gates foundation. In any case, Ms. Gates limited her reputational liability by ending her marriage.
