  • Behavior is something that happens, but it is not simply something that happens. Behavior, we have seen, happens for a 'reason'. The Greek word to keep in mind is telikos ('final’, from telos ‘end’). Behavior happens in a 'directed' way or tending to a definite end. It is in this sense that behavior is 'teleological', meaning it happens for a reason. That reason is increasing adaptedness.
