Affect (Aesthetic Reflexivity)
-
Affectivity is the aesthetic of response and appetite, a primordial way in which Reality "feels like" to you. It is variably known as affect, affectivity, valence, and affective response. The affective way of feeling is a basic indicator of agreement with the moment you are living and the contents of your experience. It can be understood in terms of one or more dimensions such as:
- Agreeableness
- Pleasantness
- Appetitiveness
- Approval
Having experience doesn't always feel right, but you can’t have it any other way. The concept of right needs wrong for definitional reference. This fundamental contrast is the origin of valence, a logic of classification and prioritization present in every human feeling. The contents of your experience always elicit affect, a feeling that feels "positive" or "negative" in a multifaceted way. By positive and negative contrast, affectivity offers a sense of alignment and priority in relation to the task at hand.
